Commissions

This is a guide to commissioning bespoke boxes with well known artisan Ian Hawthorne, Hawthorne Crafts.

Initial Box Discussions

It is certainly useful if you have a clear idea of what you want and can either sketch or explain it to us. We can either have a telephone conversation or skype, whichever you prefer, and are available some evenings and early mornings for international clients.

We will ask you about your box aspirations in detail, including how you wish to personalise your box in terms of

– size
- style
- hardware
- woods/veneer type

and can provide you with samples as well as images of boxes we have created to help clarify ideas further.

Computer Generated Drawings

Once we fully understand your requirements we can present you with a computer generated model to help you visualize how the final piece will look.

At this stage it is easy to change and rearrange box elements and once the design has been agreed we can provide you with a quotation and expected delivery date. Payment arrangements are flexible.

Box Creation

Boxes generally take six to twelve weeks to complete depending on current orders, once the drawings have been approved.

We keep you up to date with box developments by sending digital images of your handmade box with supporting text via email.  You can also contact us at any time to ask about progress.

Delivery

After receiving the final balance we will arrange to deliver your box using an appropriate postal service such as

– Special Next Day (UK)
- Express 24 (Ireland) or
- Carriers such as DHL (further afield)

and when possible, we will personally hand deliver your bespoke box within Northern Ireland.

We always endeavour to keep to a date especially if it is very special such as

– a wedding gift,
- a birthday gift,
- a retirement gift or
- another special occasion.

We look forward to working with you.

Best Regards – Ian Hawthorne
