About Us

Whether you are a corporate business or private individual, we can specially design and create handmade wooden boxes to suit your specific needs . As well as commissions, we create a small selection of wooden boxes that can be purchased directly from our website.

Our Service

Customer involvement is the key to the continuing success of our business and we keep you up-to-date during key creative stages by sending work-in-progress images via email together with written details and telephone calls where appropriate.  We find this method of keeping in touch with our customers particularly useful when giftware is being personalised or specially commissioned.  For those who are having a box personally created for them, we can also produce a 3D computer generated model. 

Gift Personalisation is available for all our creations. All of our boxes are available with Certificates of Authenticity that can normally be personalised with around 25 words.  Certain light coloured wooden items can be pyrographed (burned) with personal details such as initials, dates, logos, or a special message.  Gift Tags can also be specially made and for a gift that requires extra special packaging we can provide a gift wrapping service (for further details please contact us). 

Our Products

Based in Newtownabbey, Northern Ireland, we started our craft business in 2002.  Our creations are individually crafted and sold worldwide via our website. When you contact us for the first time with your requirements we will respond promptly to discuss your requirements further and confirm details. Hawthorne Crafts is a family business and both of us (Ian and Kate) work closely together to ensure you get the box you want.  While I (Ian) handcraft the box and send image updates to you via email, Kate pyrographs and organises packaging and delivery.

We can create jewellery boxes, keepsake boxes, ring boxes, and presentation boxes, and a range of these can be viewed in our Gallery Section.. Our one-of-a-kind Bespoke boxes have been created with an Art Deco influence and can be purchased directly from our site in the Gallery Section.

Past Commissions have included a tobacco box for retired Labour MP Tony Benn; presentation boxes for Red Bull; a musical note for actor Dominic Brunt (Paddy, Emmerdale Farm); a Trophy as the prize for the annual Lagan Boat Race;  and the Mossley Mill Giftware Collection for Newtownabbey Borough Council's visiting dignitaries including Members of Parliament.

Our boxes come with certification and/or gift tags which can be personalised on request.  Our creations are original wooden boxes that are naturally charming as

• corporate gifts.

Our work is of a very high standard and in the past we have created giftware for some famous people.    TV News Presenter Eamon Holmes has one of our Ulster Goblets and Kevin McCloud (Channel 4, Grand Designs) was delighted to receive 3 pairs of Lord and Lady Royal Goblets as a gift from a local company.  Indeed our giftware is often presented to visitors to Northern Ireland by local organisations.  HRH Prince Charles was presented with a pair of our Native Wooden Pens by members of the ReACTions Theatre Group at the Ballyclare Concerns Centre in early 2009. Our Lady Royal Goblets have also featured on ITV show Christmas Cooks 2006 as part of their Natural Christmas theme .  

Our focus is now on creating boxes and as well as viewing our giftware on this website, they are currently on display at Newtownabbey Borough Council Headquarters and at the Designyard, Dublin.  If you are based in Northern Ireland, we are always happy to visit and show our portfolio and some Irish wooden boxes. If not, then we can still discuss designs by post, phone, or email.

We are winners of the Newtownabbey Small Business of the Year Award 2004.  Winning the award is a great way for us to demonstrate the pride and enjoyment we get from the work we do.  It is also a fantastic way to demonstrate the excellence of the products and overall service we provide.  We are also registered with the Crafts Council of Ireland and Craft NI.
